INDEPENDENCE --- Independence police continue to sort through thousands of dollars worth of stolen items following the arrest of an Independence man.

Authorities said many of the items were taken from local properties and were recovered during search of the home of 47-year-old James “Jamie” Keeley Reuther and storage shed he rented.

More than 15 victims have been identified, and police said they are working to assist victims with returning their property, but the process is lengthy. Recovered loot includes a chainsaw, a torpedo heater, battery charger, concrete vibrator, industrial fan, acetylene tanks taken from homes, automobile dealerships and other businesses.

Reuther has been arrested for five counts of second-degree theft, two counts of third-degree theft, two counts of fourth-degree theft and three counts of possession of burglary tools. He was taken to the Buchanan County Jail with bond set at $125,000.
