WATERLOO | A worker at a car wash has been arrested for cleaning out a vehicle.

In addition to removing dirt and grime from the Subaru, Derrick Ware allegedly took an envelope containing $4,800 in cash, according to Waterloo police.

Officers said Ware, 41, worked at Miracle Car Wash on University Avenue when the Subaru came through for a wash on Monday afternoon.

The money was hidden under a floor mat, and Ware allegedly found it while vacuuming the vehicle. He removed the envelope and placed it in a garbage can, according to court records. Later in the day, he retrieved the envelope when he went to empty the can into a Dumpster, records state.

The incident was recorded on the business’ security camera, police said.

Waterloo police arrested Ware, of Waterloo, on Tuesday for second-degree theft. He was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail with bond set at $7,500.
