CEDAR FALLS – An Evansdale man accused of firing a shotgun behind a College Hill bar after breaking into a Cedar Falls apartment on Friday is facing new charges after authorities found the gun he allegedly used.

KaRon Roshawn Bennett, 18, was charged with burglary, harassment and intimidation with a weapon last week. On Tuesday, Cedar Falls police added charges of possession of an offensive weapon after locating a shotgun a sawed-off barrel under the legal length, carrying weapons, possession of marijuana and burglary to a vehicle.

According to police, a woman on Olive Street woke to Bennett and another man inside her apartment carrying her TV. They fled, and moments later Bennett became involved in an argument behind Little Big’s on College Street where he pulled a shotgun from his backseat and fired a single shell into the air, court records state. No injuries were reported.

He then left but allegedly returned after police arrived and was arrested.

The charges filed Tuesday allege the parking lot argument stemmed from a vehicle burglary where Bennett was accused of taking a SIG-Sauer pellet gun and about $200 in cash from a parked silver Chevrolet Impala.

Cedar Falls police searched Bennett’s vehicle on Sunday and found the sawed-off shotgun --- which contained a spent shell --- tucked under the back seat and located the stolen pellet gun and cash and a bag of marijuana, court record state.
