DUNKERTON – A former postal employee has been given probation for allegedly stealing money and stamps on the job.

Susan Ann Knapp, 41, of Readlyn, was granted a deferred judgment for a charge of second-degree theft on Aug. 8 in Black Hawk County District Court.

Under the arrangement, the charge will come off of Knapp’s record if she completes probation. She was sentenced to up to five years of probation and has made full restitution, according to court records.

Knapp had worked at the Dunkerton Post Office in 2015 when she allegedly took $2,724 worth of cash and stamps from the office and wrote six checks to the U.S. Postal Service knowing there wasn’t money in her bank account to cover the checks, court record state.

Knapp, who filed for bankruptcy in April, told investigators she took the money to get by and pay bills, according to court records.
