CEDAR FALLS – The family of a Cedar Falls hunter who was found dead in Appanoose County over the weekend is urging hunters to use caution.
The family of Curtis Ross issued a statement on Wednesday saying, "The family is reaching out to the communities because of the amount of hunters that go to this area and want everyone to stay safe and on the lookout. Family asks for understanding and respect for their privacy at this time."
Family members also wanted to express thanks for all involved.
Ross, 31, was found in a remote rural area of Appanoose County in the public hunting land around Lake Rathbun, according to the DCI. An autopsy was conducted Monday, but the results are pending laboratory tests.
DCI officials said they are treating the death as a homicide.
The public is being asked for help in the investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call the Appanoose County Law Enforcement Center at (641) 437-7100.
