MASON CITY -- A Charles City man was arrested Sunday after a trooper discovered drugs during a Mason City traffic stop.

Dalton James Betsinger, 24, is charged felony possession of meth with intent to deliver and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, as well as misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

An Iowa State Patrol trooper stopped Betsinger's silver 2005 Chrysler Town and Country on Highway 65, near 43rd Street SW, about 9:30 a.m.

During a search of the vehicle, court documents say the trooper found a backpack behind the front passenger seat containing an unlocked gray safe.

Inside the safe, there was a plastic bag of methamphetamine weighing 3.26 ounces, two 1-ounce bags of marijuana, numerous small baggies, digital scale and a glass pipe used for drugs, charging documents say.

The trooper also said he found a functional electronic stun gun in the backpack.
