During the investigation, police determined that McLemore had bought a Ruger .22-caliber revolver for $25 and was carrying it when it discharged while he was traveling in a truck in the area of Franklin and Nevada streets, according to court records. At the time, McLemore was prohibited from handling firearms because of a prior felony theft conviction, records state.
After the shooting, Hall allegedly misled police about the events, and he washed the truck’s interior, cleaned McLemore’s clothing and power washed the gun to remove any evidence because he didn’t want McLemore to get in trouble, records state.
Police later seized the revolver and another firearm during the investigation.
Hall was released from jail on Friday shortly after his arrest, but he was then arrested on Saturday on an unrelated charge. Cedar Falls police saw a truck run a stop sign on West 21st Street at 1:30 a.m. Saturday. The license plates didn’t match the vehicle, and police determined the truck had been reported stolen from a Heritage Road address on Oct. 10. He was arrested for second-degree theft, second-offense operating while intoxicated and driving while revoked.
