Club to meet
WATERLOO — The Waterloo Woman’s Club will have the first meeting of the new club year Thursday at the Snowden House, 306 Washington St., with a noon luncheon hosted by the book club.
Author David Craig will speak.

Author to hold
FAIRBANK — Author Betty Brandt Passick will have two area book signings for her new book, “Gangster in Our Midst,” a work of historical fiction.
Signings are planned for 6:30 p.m. today at the Oelwein Public Library, 201 E. Charles, and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Independence Public Library, 805 First St. E.
Numerous local residents assisted in the book-writing project that tells the story of one of Al Capone’s gangsters who began frequenting the town of Oxbow in the 1920s.
The author, a Fairbank native, is interested in bringing this Iowa story to communities across Iowa and beyond. More information is available at bettybrandtpassick.com.
Noon Kiwanis meet Tuesday
WATERLOO — The Waterloo Noon Kiwanis Club will meet at noon Tuesday at the Waterloo Elks Lodge.
Lunch will begin at 12:10 p.m. The program will be Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity, presented by Ali Parrish.

WATERLOO — American Legion Post 138 at 728 Commercial St. has several events planned.
Monday, tenderloins, burgers are fries will be served at 11 a.m.
On Tuesday there will be bingo at 6:15 and 7 p.m. Open pool is planned from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Snack bar open until 8 p.m.
Hot dogs, brats and pork rib-eye chops will be available at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
A pepper tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. Iowa Hawkeye football starts at 11 a.m.; bring snacks to share.
The legion will be closed on Sunday.
Open house set
at West Music
CEDAR FALLS — The Northeast Area Music Teachers Association will host an open house for all area piano teachers at 9 a.m. Sept. 16 at the West Music Store, 6322 University Ave.

Teachers can have a cup of coffee and snacks, meet the members of NAMTA and learn about the benefits of the organization.
NAMTA is part of the Iowa Music Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association.
