Friends to meet

WAVERLY -- The Compassionate Friends December meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. today at the Waverly Public Library, 1500 W. Bremer Ave.

Topics will include observing the Compassionate Friends worldwide candle lighting held Sunday and grief and the holidays.

Legion, RF event
set for Sunday

NEW HARTFORD -- There will be an American Legion and Retrieving Freedom fundraiser from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the New Hartford Community Building.

A soup and chili lunch will be served, along with bread, crackers and drinks; a bake sale also is planned.

Donations will be taken.

Heinz students
put on 'Aladdin'

CEDAR FALLS -- Several Cedar Valley youths have been cast as lead characters in the upcoming Heinz Academy for the Performing Arts rendition of "Aladdin: A Dance Spectacular."

Perri Coffee of Cedar Falls will perform as Aladdin, alongside Lauren Troutman of Independence, who will play Jasmine. Ella Stineman of Cedar Falls will play the Genie, and Zoey Neessen of Shell Rock will play Jafar.

Lillian Henkes of Independence will play the Sultan. Samantha Farley of Cedar Falls will play Omar, Journey Shipman of Waterloo will play Babkak and Morgan Ames of Cedar Falls will play Kassim.

The performance will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Falls High School and is open to the public. More than 150 dancers from the Cedar Valley will take part.

Waverly vets
to serve meal

WAVERLY -- A community breakfast will be served by the Waverly Area Veterans Post from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Waverly Area Veterans Post, 1300 Fourth St. N.W.

The menu will include eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausages, baked goods, fruit, coffee and juice.

The public is welcome.

Historical society
hosts celebration

CEDAR FALLS -- The Cedar Falls Historical Society is celebrating the holidays with a special “Primping for the Party” event at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Victorian Home & Carriage House Museum, 308 W. Third St.

Local hairstylists and historical society staff will demonstrate and describe the similarities and differences between Victorian and current trends in hairstyling and cosmetics.

The 1863 home also will feature a “Cabinet of Curiosities” exhibit with period hair accessories and beauty products in the master bedroom.
