Blood drive set in Dysart

Author to speak at Denver library

DENVER — The Denver Public Library will host lowa author Virginia Pillars at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Pillars will discuss her award-winning memoir, “Broken Brain, Fortified Faith: Lessons of Hope Through a Child’s Mental Illness”.

Pillars volunteers both as an educator and support group leader for the National Alliance on Mental illness.

Pillar’s book was published in September 2016, and copies will be available for sale at the event.

The presentation is free.

Program’s focus to be car dealers

WATERLOO — The Cedar Valley Historical Society will feature the history of early Waterloo car dealerships Nov. 28 with a special presentation at the KWWL building, 511 E. Fifth St., the original location of the Overland Car dealership built in 1916.

Jim Volgarino will present his research on Cedar Valley auto dealers starting at 7 p.m. Seating will be limited to 100 people in the restored former showroom of the Overland car dealership.

KWWL completed the renovation of the building recently and has incorporated many of the interior and exterior architectural elements that were part of the original construction.

The presentation is open to the public with a $3 entrance fee collected at the door by the historical society, which will provide beverages and refreshments.

Attendees are reminded to enter the KWWL building through the East Fifth Street entrance.

Center offers trip to LeMars

CEDAR FALLS — The Riverview Conference Center will host a bus trip to LeMars on Dec. 6.

It will leave at 7 a.m. and include a “Christmas Around the World” show at the Browns’ Century Theater, featuring the Brown family, and a stop at the Wells Blue Bunny Parlor & Museum.

Cost is $75 per person, which includes transportation, lunch buffet and show. Ice cream treats and supper is purchased on your own.

Class features Mexican food

WATERLOO — The Ansborough Hy-Vee will host an “Around the World with Chef Chris: Mexico” cooking class at 6 p.m. Nov. 30.
