Crockpot meals are set for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and there will be bingo from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Southern meal set for Sunday
WATERLOO — Jubilee UMC Resource Center, East Fourth and Newell streets, will host a LeChristopher’s Southern cuisine dinner Sunday, beginning at noon.
This month’s menu may feature meatloaf, fried chicken, baked chicken, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, salmon patties, collard greens, okra, pies and cakes.

Professor to be featured speaker
CEDAR FALLS — Kenneth Atkinson, professor of religion, University of Northern Iowa, will be the first of three featured speakers for St. John Lutheran Church’s second annual contemporary adult education speaker series.
Atkinson’s presentation, “The Islamic State (ISIS): A Brief History,” is set for 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Jan. 21 in the church library.
Atkinson’s research and teaching expertise includes the Hebrew Bible, New Testament, Jewish and Christian noncanonical literature, the Dead Sea Scrolls, archeology, women in antiquity and world religions.
Additional speakers for the series include Christopher Larimer, professor of political science at UNI, on Feb. 18 with “Predicting Elections is Easy …” and Mark Grey, professor of anthropology and director of the Iowa Center for Immigration Leadership and Integration at UNI, on March 4.
