CEDAR FALLS — A Lenten Lunch speaker series is planned at Orchard Hill Church, 3900 Orchard Hill Drive, each Wednesday through March 21.

The meal will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m., with a speaker program from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.

Everyone is welcome. A meal of soup, bread and dessert will be provided ($4 donation suggested).

The speaker schedule includes:

  • Wednesday — Paul Sabino, Candeo, Church.
  • Feb. 21 — Quovadis Martin, Hope City Church, Waterloo.
  • Feb. 28 — Tim Boettger, Western Home Communities.

Pancake day slated Tuesday

CEDAR FALLS — Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 904 Bluff St., will host the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake day Feb. 13.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. It includes all-you-can-eat pancakes plus sausage and applesauce.

Tickets, available at the door, are $6 for 10 years of age through adults and free for ages 9 years and younger.

Church to host Sunday dinner

WATERLOO — The Mission Department of Mount Carmel will host a “Birthday Bash” dinner Sunday following morning worship.

This is a “dine-in” only dinner — no carry outs or deliveries. Call the church at 233-9482 for further information.

VFW announces coming events

WATERLOO — The Sullivan Brothers VFW is now holding jam sessions Saturdays.

The first will feature a group of musicians from the University of Northern Iowa from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Everyone is welcome to listen, and there is no admission charge.

Donations for the musicians will be appreciated. Game night and potluck also are set to start at 4 p.m. at the post.

Other VFW activities include crockpot meals from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, bingo from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, karaoke from 8 to 1 a.m. Fridays, a pepper tournament and snacks from 2 to 4 p.m. followed by pool league at 7 p.m. Sundays.

The Sullivan Brothers VFW Post is open to the public at 1406 Commercial St.

Country music jam scheduled

CEDAR FALLS — The Country Good Timers will host a country music jam session from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Cedar Falls Community Center on Main Street.

There will be a Valentine theme, and people are welcome to wear red.

Independence blood drive set

INDEPENDENCE — There will be a Buchanan County community blood drive from noon to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at BCHC Wellness Center, 1600 First St. East.
