WATERLOO — American Legion Post 138 at 728 Commercial St. has several events planned.

Today the kitchen is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On Tuesday bingo is planned for at 6:15 and 7 p.m. Food also is planned starting at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

A pepper tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. Bingo is planned for 1:15 and 2 p.m. Sunday.

NEW HARTFORD — The New Hartford Lions Club are having a omelet and all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the New Hartford Community Building.

Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12, and $3 for a second omelet 3.

A bake sale will support the Beaver Creek Days fundraiser.

Chili supper set Feb. 17

WATERLOO — St. Paul’s UMC Men’s Club is having a chili supper from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at 207 W. Louise St.

There will be all-you-can-eat chili, as well as peanut butter sandwiches and beverage.

Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for kids ages 5 to 11 and free for those 4 and younger.

professor speaks

CEDAR FALLS — Christopher Larimer, professor of political science at the University of Northern Iowa, will be the second in a series of three St. John Lutheran Church Contemporary Adult Education speakers.

He will speak from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Feb. 18 in the main level library on “Predicting elections is easy ...”

Larimer received his bachelor’s degree from UNI and his master of arts and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Nebraska. His research and teaching interests are in the areas of political behavior, public policy theory, Iowa politics, Iowa caucuses, Iowa governors, voter turnout and gender and decision-making.

Larimer will discuss what political scientists use to predict election outcomes and give a perspective of the past and future of Iowa politics.
