CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) --- An Iowa police officer is recovering after being rear-ended while patrolling Clear Lake, and two men are facing alcohol-related charges.

Authorities say Clear Lake Lt. Paul Chizek was struck from behind while he was driving on Highway 18 in Clear Lake early Friday. Chizek radioed for help and more officers responded.

Chizek was taken to the hospital for treatment of a cut on his head.

The driver who struck the police cruiser, 21-year-old Steven Orta, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, following too close and driving without a valid license.

The passenger, 29-year-old Ryan Orta, fled but didn't make it far before being arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.
