CEDAR FALLS - Cedar Falls firefighters extinguished a fire at Viking Pump, 711 Viking Road, Sunday night after an explosion in a large air compressor at the plant.

No one was injured. The plant had been evacuated by the time firefighters arrived at around 11:30 p.m., according to Capt. Brad Sherwood of the Cedar Falls Fire Rescue Department.

"We extinguished the flames pretty quickly. There was a lot of smoke. It's a pretty big building," Sherwood said.

Firefighters used a ladder truck to help put out the fire.

The blast and fire ruined the air compressor and did a small amount of damage to the building. The amount of damage had not been determined this morning.

Viking Pump makes pumps for a variety of industrial purposes.
