CEDAR FALLS --- The University of Northern Iowa has established Saturday as Eldon and Dee Miller Day prior to the UNI men's basketball exhibition against North Carolina-Pembroke at noon in the McLeod Center.
Miller served as head coach for the Panther men's basketball program from 1987-1998. Miller currently serves as an assistant coach at UNC-Pembroke.
Miller's son, Ben, is the second-year head coach of the Braves' program. Miller guided the UNI Panthers to 164 victories, including the school's first-ever NCAA Division I tournament victory in 1990 over Missouri.
Miller was instrumental in the vision, fundraising and development of the McLeod Center.
"Coach Miller made the McLeod Center dream a reality," UNI head coach Ben Jacobson said. "He and Dee have impacted the Cedar Valley in so many ways and the opportunity to welcome them back to the McLeod Center will be special. This is an exciting week for all of us as we honor Eldon and Dee for their accomplishments and commitment to the University of Northern Iowa."
His 1989-90 Panther team will be in attendance Saturday for Eldon and Dee Miller Day and will be recognized at the exhibition contest.
Leading up to Saturday's game, UNI Athletics will relive highlights from the Eldon Miller era with stories each day of the week recapping the historical significance of Miller on the Panther sideline.
UNI will unveil the 2009 NCAA Tournament banner prior to Saturday's exhibition game against UNC-Pembroke.
