CEDAR FALLS --- Locally owned KCVM-FM "Mix 96.1" announced this week it will move from 96.1 to 93.5 on the FM dial.
Station officials said it will boost the coverage and reach of the station in the Cedar Valley area.
"We hate to lose the 96.1 dial position, which has been very good for us the first 16 years," said Jim Coloff, Mix 96 owner and general manager. "However, this move will allow us to better serve the Cedar Valley. It will also lead to even stronger coverage in the future."
Coloff said he applied with the Federal Communications Commission for the change almost two years ago. The FCC granted the application last year, and they have been working on the technical arrangements since then.
"We plan to continue our investment in the station and in the community," he said. "This is a great place to live and do business, and we will continue to improve and add new features to our broadcasts over the next three years."
The station had been teasing the announcement for several weeks.
As part of the frequency change, the station announced it would be giving listeners who make the change on their radio dials a chance to win $100,000.
"We wanted to have some fun with the dial position change, so we came up with the idea of giving our listeners a chance to win big money," said Jason Burns, morning show co-host and operations manager. "We'll give the first 100 people who catch us broadcasting on 93.5 a chance to win $100,000."
Burns added that the station plans to continue to offer their listeners the same mix of music but hinted there might be some new things coming to the station in the future.
