WATERLOO, Iowa --- The Waterloo Community Playhouse will be casting for "Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily" at 1 p.m. Sept. 7 and 4:15 p.m. Sept. 8.
Rehearsals are expected to begin around Sept. 11 and the production will run Oct. 25-Nov. 2.
A cast of 10 characters is sought. They include Sherlock Holmes, the world's greatest detective; Dr. Watson, his associate; Lillie Langtry, a great actress; Oscar Wilde, great playwright with wit and intellect, a thief; Mrs. McGlynn, Holmes' aging substitute housekeeper; Abdul Karim, attendant and confidante to her majesty Queen Victoria; Mrs. Tory, Lillie's maid; John Smythe, works for the professor; and Professor Moriarty, the greatest crime lord of all time.
In this play the wit of Oscar Wilde meets the cunning of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle when Wilde brings his dear friend, Lillie Langtry, to Baker Street. Someone has stolen the highly intimate letters Lillie exchanged with the Prince of Wales, and now she is being blackmailed. Only Holmes can solve the case.
Anyone interested in auditioning should show up on one of the audition dates at the WCP/Black Hawk Children's Theatre Walker Building, 224 Commercial St. Auditions consist of cold readings from the script, which may be checked out in advance. Scripts are available for a weeklong perusal with a $10 deposit. People may stop by the WCP/BHCT Walker Building from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday to pick up a script.
