WATERLOO - KWWL-TV has changed the schedules of its meteorologists and has designated one chief meteorologist for the first time in three years, the station's manager said Thursday.

Veteran meteorologists Jeff Kennedy and Mark Schnackenberg had led the station's weather coverage since chief meteorologist Ian Leonard departed in 2006, and continued as co-chiefs through Monday.

Under changes implemented this week, Schnackenberg alone is now chief meteorologist and will work the Monday through Friday evening newscasts. Kennedy, who previously worked that schedule, is now working weekend evenings and will be active in various community events for the station, continuing as a full-time employee with those responsibilities.

Meteorologist Eileen Loan is taking over the weekday morning and noon newscasts from Schnackenberg, and meteorologist Jennifer Hildreth will continue on weekend mornings.

"The station has made changes to our meteorologist's schedules to increase our effectiveness in weather coverage," station manager Kim Leer said. "There are a number of reasons for the changes, and while we don't comment on internal personnel issues, we are fortunate to have a strong team of meteorologists in Mark, Eileen, Jeff and Jennifer."

Kennedy has been with KWWL since 1981. Schnackenberg joined the station in 1995. Loan and Hildreth were joined the weather staff in 2006 and 2007, respectively.
