This beautiful kitchen gets its glamour from a pair of elegant chandeliers, the soft, silvery sparkle in the “Summerhill” Cambria quartz and furniture-like detailing.
Their kitchen is the heart of the home – “the place where everyone ends up hanging out,” the homeowner says, but it was outdated. Not to mention the jutting peninsula that awkwardly divided the space between the kitchen, dining and family room. After remodeling the family area, including custom cabinetry, it was evident the kitchen needed its own facelift.
“I wanted a timeless, classic kitchen, and I feel like white is a timeless, transitional look that will last for years and fit with the traditional look of our home. I also was drawn to marble for counter tops, but it’s not durable or practical enough. We found the quartz that gives the appearance of marble, and it's perfect,” she explains.
Although she knew her own mind and sought out the appliances, materials and accessories, she enlisted help from interior designer Amanda Moore for the design layout.
“The layout was crucial to make use of every square inch and to make sure the work space was arranged for functionality and convenience, as well as fit the design aesthetics,” says the homeowners.
Moore says, “She wanted two islands that would work in the existing space, and we also had to incorporate the existing bar and buffet that was done several years ago. Fitting all that into the kitchen was a challenge without adding square footage, but we got it done.”
The gray-black-silver-white mosaic backsplash is the perfect foil for new white Dura Supreme Cabinetry with modern, silver linear hardware. High-end appliances, including the Wolf dual range and Sub-Zero fridge dressed in furniture-like white panels, are ideal for the homeowners who love to cook.
One quartz-topped island sits squarely in the kitchen-proper. Gray leather bar seats with nailhead trim tuck easily under the overhang. The second, custom-designed island by Fishsticks features thick pedestal legs painted deep gray and supporting a solid maple top. Bar stools provide additional seating.
Finding the perfect chandeliers was the homeowner’s crowning achievement. “I wanted light fixtures that would be easy to clean in the kitchen. I can’t stand clutter or dirt. These are PVC chandeliers have drum shades and dangling crystals that are a modern touch – and make me smile.”
