OELWEIN -- Wayne Lawrence Liebe, 83, of Oelwein, died Monday, Dec. 4, at Arlington Place in Oelwein.
He was born July 25, 1934, in Oelwein, son of Lawrence and Thelma Smith Liebe. He married Judy Warren on Oct. 9, 1954, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein.
He graduated from Oelwein High School in 1952 and then attended Drake University from 1952 to 1953. He then worked at Iowa Motors in Oelwein for his father and later with his brother Jule “Chub” as co-owners until they both retired. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, past president of Rotary Club, the Jaycees, Oelwein City Council, Oelwein Airport Board and an Oelwein Ambassador.
Survived by: his wife; his children, Kent Liebe, Lynn (Bob) Stewart and Lori (John “Bud”) Sackfield; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Jule (Kay); a sister, Janet Levendusky; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: his parents; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Liebe.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with burial at a later date. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein.
Memorial fund: has been established.
Wayne was an avid golfer, enjoyed riding his horses, playing poker, his morning coffee and breakfast group, vacations at the lake, his John Deere tractor, flying his airplane, driving stock cars and of course Ford cars and trucks. He also enjoyed time with his family. He was a big part of Oelwein and will be missed by his family and friends.
