APLINGTON - Walter L. Sheets, 71, of Aplington, formerly of Parkersburg, Janesville and Cedar Falls, died Monday, June 6, at Maple Manor Village, Aplington.

He was born July 23, 1939, in Chico, Calif., son of Kenneth and Margaret Sheets.

Mr. Sheets earned an associate's degree from Indian Hills Community College and a bachelor's degree in criminology from the University of Northern Iowa. He was employed as a cook with Highway 20 Diner and gave speeches to area high schools and colleges about his life's lessons. As a trained chef, he made and sold cheesecakes in the Parkersburg area.

Survived by: a daughter, Maggie (Jim) Averill of New Hartford; two stepsons, Nick Beronich of Corona, Calif., and Eli White of Seattle; and six grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a sister, Barbara.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls. No services are scheduled.
