CEDAR FALLS -- Virjeanne "Jean" Petersen, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, Nov. 2, at Bickford Cottage in Cedar Falls.
She was born May 14, 1929, in Boone and raised by her mother Nona and stepfather Dick Nordman. She married Bob Bancroft, and they were later divorced. She married Joe Petersen in August 1967, and he died in December 1993.
She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1947 and was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church. Jean was a longtime member of Beaver Hills Country Club, serving on the board as well as various committees.
Survived by: three daughters, Pam (George) Schwartz of Lincoln, Neb.,and Katie (Ray) Pearson and Sue (Ron) Cook, both of Cedar Falls; a son, Mike (Deb) Bancroft of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two nieces, Rebecca (Glen) Penland in California and Chris (Tim) Hippen of Aplington; a nephew, Terry (LaRee) DeGroote of Parkersburg; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a longtime friend and companion, Bill Burke.
Preceded in death by: her parents; and a sister, Hazel DeGroote.
Memorial services: will be private. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p. m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Celebration of Life will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Pump Haus Pub & Grill in Cedar Falls.
Memorials in lieu of flowers: may be directed to UnityPoint Hospice, Alzheimer's Association or Bickford Cottage in Cedar Falls and Nazareth Lutheran Church.

Jean was an avid golfer and took pride in her No. 1 membership at Beaver Hills and her hole-in-one. She was devoted to her children, her community and her faith; loved music and dancing. She had a keen sense of business, honor, commitment and a wonderful sense of humor. Jean will be missed by many.
