PARKERSBURG - Shirley Augusta Luhring, 71, of Parkersburg, died Sunday, May 25, in the tornado that struck Parkersburg.
She was born Feb. 22, 1937, on the family farm north of Austinville, daughter of Henry and Edith Tjabben Meyer. She married Herman Luhring on Aug. 19, 1955, at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, near Fern.
Mrs. Luhring graduated from Aplington High School in 1954, then worked in a bank in Aplington. She and her husband farmed near Stout, then south of Parkersburg, retiring in 1999. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, where she was service chairman.
Survived by: her husband; four daughters, Pam (Keith) Van Hauen of Holland, Roxanne (Charles) Meyer of Burnsville, Minn., Lynnae (Rich) Jess of Haslett, Mich., and Joni (Lonnie) Wright of Dike; 10 grandchildren; and a brother, Ervin (Mildred) Meyer of Aplington.
Preceded in death by: two sisters, Eunice Abbas and Lela Orr.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, near Fern, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg. Public visitation from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center.
