WATERLOO - Daniel E. Lawless, 86, of Waterloo, died Friday, Sept. 18, at his home.

He was born May 24, 1923, in Waterloo, son of Ernest Eugene and Mabel E. O'Leary Lawless. He married Betty J. McNelly on Jan. 24, 1942, in Waterloo. She preceded him in death March 1, 1996.

He owned and operated Dan Lawless Trucking in Waterloo from 1947 until his retirement in 1985. Following retirement he worked for Casey's Auto Parts from 1989-2006. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Survived by: a daughter, Linda (Fred) Hickman of Evansdale; three sons, Jim (Nancy) and Jeff (Pam), both of Waterloo, and Skeets (Mary) of Cumming, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eunice Schuler of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: three brothers, Pete, Jack and Ernest; three half brothers, Harold, Archie and Glen Whitney; three sisters, Betty, Mary and Nola; and a half sister, Beulah Whitney.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Burton Avenue Baptist Church, with burial with full military honors in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Garden View Chapel, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
