CEDAR FALLS - Phyllis Evelyn Norby, 88, of Cedar Falls, died at home Tuesday, Jan. 3.
She was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Traer, daughter of Frederic and Harriet Adams Wilson. She married Gerald J. Norby on April 20, 1945, in Soldier. He died in 1976.
Mrs. Norby graduated from Traer High School in 1941, Iowa State Teachers College in 1943 and received her bachelor's degree from Iowa State Teachers College in 1966. She taught at elementary schools in Soldier, Traer, Parkersburg, Janesville and Washburn, retiring in 1988.
Survived by: two sons, Joel (Beth) of Omaha, Neb., and Steve (Barbara Drews) of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Suzette Norby, of Marion; six grandchildren, James (Brenda) Clafton, Michelle (Sam) DeHart, Kristofer Norby, Kathryn Norby, Emilie (Donald) Inman and Julianna Norby; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Kaylie and Zachary DeHart and Talia Norby; and a sister, Shirley Stavley of Traer.
Preceded in death by: her parents.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at United Church of Christ, Cedar Falls, with burial in Buckingham Cemetery, Traer. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.
