GRUNDY CENTER — Michael Bruce Johns, 28, of Grundy Center, died Friday, Dec. 1.
He was born Aug. 19, 1989, in Marshalltown, son of Merle Johns and Julia Chaplin. He married Kaylynn Putney on June 27, 2015, in Grundy Center.
Michael graduated from Grundy Center High School in 2008. After graduation, he worked for the Ken Bratney Co. in Des Moines for nine years as a millwright.
Survived by: his mother; his father, Merle (Lisa) Johns; his grandparents, Dean and Jane Johns and Gary Sr. and JoAnn Chaplin; his wife; a sister, Sarah Johns; aunts, Diane (Shane) Tegtmeyer and Wendy (David) Smalley; uncles Gary (DeeAnn) Chaplin Jr. and Alan (Jan) Chaplin; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: an uncle, Bruce Chaplin.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, with burial held privately. Memorial visitation will be for an hour before services at the church.
Memorial fund: in Michael’s memory has been established at GNB Bank in Grundy Center.

Michael was an avid deer hunter; he loved bow and shotgun seasons. He enjoyed riding his 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Michael also enjoyed working on his truck in his free time as well as helping his friend maintain his race car and accompanying him to the racetrack. His true joy in life came from his family and friends.
