REINBECK — Marvin J. “Nick” Hamann, 88, of Reinbeck, died Saturday, Feb.10, following a lengthy illness.

Nick was born June 17, 1929, in Beaman, son of William and Emma (Harmsen) Hamann. He graduated from Reinbeck Community School in 1946. He worked on the farm for his dad until 1951 while working at Rath Packing during the winter months. In 1951, he started working for DX-Sunray. In 1954, he married Joann Steil of Nashua. They made their home in Madison, Wis., until 1955 when he transferred back to Waterloo for Sunray DX, until 1976. DX-Sunray moved their Waterloo office to Tulsa but Nick began working for Warren Transport (1976-978). He later went to work for Deere & Co. until his retirement May 30, 1993.

From 1993 until October 2011, Nick drove school bus for the Reinbeck Community Schools and was the Reinbeck City Park custodian during the summer.

Survived by: his sons, Rodney (Ruby) Hamann of Jacksonville, Fla., and Tom (Irene) Hamann of Reinbeck; a sister, Marlene (Bill) Russell of Traer; grandchildren, Cody (Eryn) Hamann of Waterloo and Heather Hamann of Altoona; great-grandchildren, Haydan and Desmon Daniel.

Preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Joann “Jody”; brothers, Leonard and Howard Hamann; and sister, Vivian Bauer.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ, Reinbeck, preceded by one hour of visitation at the church. Burial will follow services at the Reinbeck Cemetery.

Nick enjoyed dancing and card playing. He also was a member of the Oak Leaf Country Club in Reinbeck. His pride and joy was singing with the Inter-Faith Men’s Chorus which traveled to various locations in Iowa and Minnesota. His later years were spent making new friends and his occasional trips to the casino.
