WATERLOO — Kay L. Rooff-Steffen, 60, of Blue Grass, died Nov. 21 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
She was born on April 3, 1957, in Waterloo, daughter of James L."Pat” and Ramona E. Kammerdiner Rooff. She married Don L. Steffen on Oct. 20, 1979, in Waterloo.
Kay graduated from Waterloo West High School, the University of Northern Iowa with a BA in Spanish and the University of Iowa with a master’s degree in journalism. She was department chair of the humanities department and professor at Muscatine Community College for 30 years.
Survived by: her husband; a daughter, Amie Steffen of Waterloo; a son, Travis Steffen of San Francisco; her mother, of Waterloo; two brothers, Jim (Tracy) Rooff of Evansdale and Mike (Nancy) Rooff of Waterloo; and numerous other family members and friends.
Preceded in death by: her father; and a brother, Gary Rooff.
Celebration of Life gathering: from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at 401 Gladys St., Waterloo. At Kay’s request, no visitation or service will be held.
Memorials in lieu of flowers: may be directed to The V Foundation for cancer research.

Kay enjoyed writing, singing and was a talented musician. She loved to travel all over the world and also enjoyed dancing and attending concerts. She loved her canine companion Boots. Above all, she loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them, especially playing board games.
