John D. Brownstone 76, of Bonita Springs, FL and Cedar Falls, IA, died Monday, January 22, 2018, at the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Ft. Myers, FL after an extended illness. He was born June 22, 1941 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of late Dr. Manuel and Dorothy Margulies Brownstone. John married Anne R. Wilson on April 2, 1966 in Eldora, IA. They made Bonita Springs their permanent residence in 2009 but still maintained their home in Cedar Falls.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served from 1961 thru 1965.
He was a 1967 graduate of State College of Iowa where he and Anne met. He also received his Master’s Degree in School Psychology from the University of Oregon. He returned to Iowa and worked as a School Psychologist and then as Psychologist for Exceptional Persons, Inc. He later mentored his nephew, Stacey, who was studying for a degree in Electronic Engineering Technology, and later obtained the same EET degree himself which enabled him to start his own business, Brownstone Systems, Inc. He served as Information Systems Manager at Waterloo Warehousing where he developed their database systems and retired in 2003.
John is survived by his loving wife, Anne R. Brownstone of Bonita Springs, FL; two sisters and their spouses, Joan DiAntonio and her husband, Robert of Clayton, MO and their two sons and grandsons; and Dr. Jane E. Brownstone and her husband, James Wheeler of University City, MO; his recently deceased brother-in-law, David Wilson, and David’s surviving sons, Stacey and James Wilson and their devoted families in Iowa. John had many close friends who will miss him dearly.
Private services will be held by the family. The family suggests that memorial donations in memory of John be made to the charity of your choice.
