WATERLOO — Hartley Louis Latterman, 96, died Friday, Dec. 1, at Bickford Senior Living, Iowa City.
Hartley was born Feb. 21, 1921, in Frankville Township, Winneshiek County. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Rosena and Marvin Winters in Waukon. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 78th Infantry Division. After the war, Hartley moved to Waterloo. He married Virginia Edgetion on May 9, 1953. She preceded him in death.
Hartley worked for Rath Packing Plant for 31 years before retiring in 1979.
Survivors: his stepchildren, Ramona Walls of Oxford and Ronald Heller of Arizona; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Preceded in death by: his parents, Albert and Elsie Latterman; two brothers, Leslie and Vernon; two sisters, Mildred and Maxine; a son-in-law, Elmer Walls; and great-grandson, Casey Walls.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, where he will receive military honors. Visitation is for an hour prior to services at the funeral home.

After the death of his wife Virginia, Hartley shared many years with longtime friend Harriett Boike and her family. Of Hartley’s 96 years he touched a lot of lives. He gave his time, talents, and care to many people. Never late for anyone or anything. He will be truly missed.
