DYSART — Gene Alan Wardenburg, 71, of Dysart, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.
He was born Dec. 11, 1946, in Vinton, son of Milford and Ethel (Feuerbach) Wardenburg. He graduated from Keystone High School in 1965 and served in the Air Force from 1969 to 1973. He graduated from Northeast Missouri State in 1974. On Jan. 10, 1970, Gene married Bonnie Brunssen at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Van Horne.
He retired from Union Community Schools in 2004.
Survivors: his wife; three sons, Layne (Mindy) of Noblesville, Ind., Derek of Waterloo and Wyatt (Sarah) of Marion; three grandchildren, Mariah, Gracie, and Knox; two sisters, Wendy (Keith) Junge and Cathy (Jim) Buch; three aunts; an uncle; Bonnie’s brothers, sisters, and their spouses; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by: his parents.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart with inurnment with military rites conducted by the Dysart American Legion at Keystone Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the church. Overton Funeral Home, Dysart, is assisting the family.

Gene loved to visit and reminisce with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, watching Hawkeye games, and going to the casinos. His greatest joys were his grandchildren and he was so proud of each of his boys.
