NEW HAMPTON - Clayton L. Burgart, 94, of New Hampton, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, at his home.
He was born June 16, 1917, on the family farm near North Washington, son of Michael J. and Theresa M. Peske Burgart. He married Virginia Johnston June 4, 1946, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler. She died June 20, 1986. He married Mavis Krukow April 8, 1989, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Hampton.
He graduated from St. Mary's High School in North Washington in 1935, and farmed with his father and brother. He bought a farm in 1948 by Williamstown, retiring in 1989. Mr. Burgart was a crop and Brown Swiss Dairy farmer.
Survived by: his wife, Mavis; five daughters, Dixie (Jim) Joebgen and Cheryl (Kenneth) Lechtenberg, all of New Hampton, Dawn (John) Eichenberger of Lawler, Dianne Dann of Fredericksburg and Barbara (Dennis) Folkers of Oelwein; four sons, Richard (Janet), Roger (Mary), Randy (Linda) and Rocky (Sue), all of New Hampton; a stepson, Arnold (Bonnie) Krukow of Riceville; 31 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; five stepgreat-great-grandchildren; a brother, Vincent "Timmy" (Francella) of New Hampton; and a sister-in-law, Elma Burgart of New Hampton.
Preceded in death by: two sons, Rance, and Joseph Clayton in infancy; three brothers, Clarence, Ray and Marvin; and three sisters, Sarah Heit, Adeline Ries and Loraine Kolbet.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Parish - St. Mary's Center, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, both in New Hampton. Public visitation from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton, with a 3 p.m. rosary and 6:30 p.m. Scripture service. Visitation will continue from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
