The deep blue sea has inspired Sherwin Williams’ color choice for 2018: Oceanside.
Opulent and rich, the color resonates in response to an “aching to bring more intensity, more color into our homes after years of neutrals and pale colors,” says Sue Wadden, SW director of color marketing.
It’s a color that stirs the heart and mind.
Oceanside also suits the trend toward “maximalism” – filling your home with color, patterns, textures, layers, a mix of matte and shiny finishes and metals and luxurious touches to create warm, inviting spaces.
Embraced in design styles from mid-century modern and Mediterranean to ultra-contemporary, the paint color can envelop an entire room in adventurous spirit, or create an accent wall for displaying artwork.
“You can put it on furniture and kitchen cabinets, use it anywhere. You can do it a flat matte finish or super shiny. Paired with gold or copper metal, it look gorgeous,” Wadden says.
She suggests playing Oceanside with warm or cool neutrals – creams, tans, taupes, grays and even charcoal grey for nice balance. Make it bright and fresh paired with citrus yellow or bold green, or with black and white for sophisticated appeal. Pops of pink are striking against this shade of blue, too.
