WATERLOO | Gaming enthusiast and fan of all things geek, Chris Hussey is taking his storytelling skills and writers from his podcast to paper.

Hussey and fellow contributors to the “Fear the Boot” gaming podcast have collaborated on an anthology called “Sojourn: An Anthology of Speculative Fiction.” The book features 15 fictional stories ranging from fantasy to science fiction.

The work, published by Fear the Boot, LLC, will appeal to gamers, and fantasy and sci-fi enthusiasts, who might not be familiar with the authors’ online production. Hussey, who wrote one of the stories, said the work may be a way to broaden his production’s appeal.

“The idea here was to really kind of build an audience,” Hussey said.

“Fear the Boot” podcast focuses on gaming themes and role playing game experiences. Fans of such games are generally fans of fantasy and science fiction genre stories, Hussey said.

“The subject matter is really similar to gaming themes,” he said.

Some of the stories feature first-time published authors while others are penned by veteran authors. Before his work on this anthology, Hussey co-authored “Games’ Most Wanted,” a book of lists and rankings of various types and genres of games. That book hit shelves last year. What started as a labor of love for Hussey has quickly turned into a multiple platform commitment.

“Sojourn: An Anthology of Speculative Fiction” is available at Barnes & Noble book stores and on Amazon.com. A follow-up publication is already in the works. The group is taking submissions for a collection of fantasy and sci-fi stories that follow a winter theme.
