Community Foundation awards scholarships to Union Community Schools

WATERLOO | The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa has awarded 31 scholarships to Union Community High School students.

These were part of the 220 scholarships valuing more than $200,000 awarded by the foundation in 2013. In 2010, the Community Foundation partnered with Union Community Scholarships committee to handle distribution of all scholarships given to Union students.

The Advocare “We Build Champions” Athlete scholarship was awarded to Emily Phillips and Tanner Heckt. The American Lutheran Women scholarship was awarded to Adria Bechthold. The Ben R. Brown Memorial scholarship was awarded to Elijah Kautz. The Callahan Volunteerism scholarship was awarded to Natalie Hanson. The Cecil Glenn Teeter Book scholarship was awarded to Bradley Petersen. The Cedar Valley Bank & Trust scholarship was awarded to Justin Clark.

The Dr. Albert C. Hindman scholarship was awarded to Katie King. The Dysart Development Corporation scholarship was awarded to Lindsey Powell. The Dysart Fine Arts Women’s Club scholarship was awarded to Savannah Jensen. The Dysart Farmer’s Co-op Telephone Company scholarship was awarded to Trev Hadachek. The Dysart General Women’s Club scholarship was awarded to Erin Heckroth.

The Dysart Lions Club scholarship was awarded to Elijah Kautz, Erin Heckroth, Jamie Wandschneider, and Lindsey Powell. The Farmers State Bank scholarship was awarded to Brian Dunkelberger. The Harlan Rice Memorial scholarship was awarded to Erin Heckroth. The LaPorte City Police Department scholarship was awarded to Jamie Wandschneider. The LaPorte City Women’s Club scholarship was awarded to Samantha Barz. The LaPorte City of Chamber scholarship was awarded to Matt Miller. The Mabel Hartz Brown and Gladys Hartz Tucker Brown Memorial scholarship was awarded to Grace Sparks. The Matt Memorial scholarship was awarded to Zachary Neuendorf. The Pipho Family Dentistry scholarship was awarded to Nicolas Peters.

The Ron Borton (Anton Farms) scholarship was awarded to Natalie Hanson. The St. Catherine’s Circle scholarship was awarded to Mitchell Brandhorst. The Trowel Lodge No. 216 scholarship was awarded to Jamie Wandschneider and Samantha Barz. The Union Booster Club scholarship was awarded to Darian Davis and Will Crees. The Union Education Association scholarship was awarded to Austin Pauling.

Scholarship information for 2014 will be updated on the Community Foundation website at www.cfneia.org in December. Scholarships are available for students in Black Hawk County and other fund locations served by the Community Foundation.

Each year, the Community Foundation awards scholarships from more than 100 scholarship funds that have been created by generous donors with various charitable goals. Scholarships are awarded based on various criteria, including academic achievement, financial need, and excellence in extra-curricular activities.
