HMQ will perform a varied program of new modern works composed for them, contemporary/groovy pieces, to ragtime and classical transcriptions such as Billy Joel’s Rootbeer Rag and Gottschalk’s Famous Tarantella. They will be premiering Coley’s Rivers of Rage on this tour; a political commentary piece written for the quartet. HMQ is Matthew Coley [Waterloo, IA], Michael J. Jones [Austin, TX], Joe Millea [Tempe, AZ], and Andrew Veit [Wheaton, IL].
HMQ is a dynamic ensemble within the HM organization made up of four marimba specialists of excitingly different backgrounds and styles of performance. The accomplished artists are some of the most creative forces in the percussion world today. It focuses on high caliber performances of contemporary works and transcriptions by American composers. HMQ regularly tours to a variety of venues, including universities, concert halls, churches, museums, and high schools, doing concerts, collaborations, and educational events. With the diverse and broad experience of its performers, HMQ is the resident ensemble during the summer HMFestival, serving as the primary artist teacher/mentors to the attending students.
