Kick off the holiday season by heading to downtown Independence. At 5 p.m., the official tree lighting, accompanied by live caroling, will take place in the lot next to City Hall.

After the tree lighting, the windows of Independence merchants will be revealed for the community’s Window Walk. Plus, there will be activities and entertainment for all ages until 7:30 pm.

Veridian Credit Union is sponsoring horse-drawn carriage rides. The free rides will start at Wapsi Mill.

Other activities include stories by Mrs. Claus, marshmallow roast, cookie decorating and more.
