What drives you?
My brother David and myself represent the third generation in our family business. My grandfather Stan Seroke started our business in 1936 so my personal drive is to keep the business moving forward, especially since we now have fourth-generation family involved. Statistically, second- and third-generation family owners do not have good track records; I don’t care to join that group.
What’s your biggest accomplishment in 2017?
In August 2017, we began a project to add 53,000 square feet of warehousing space to our Savannah Park facility, which will provide us with needed capacity to improve operational efficiencies. In addition, we spent a great deal of time planning a potential project that could provide us with new capabilities to attract a diverse set of clienteles.
What are your goals for 2018?
In early 2018, we will incorporate our expansion at Savannah Park Road into our existing facility and reorganize the 330,000-sq. ft. facility. We also plan on new projects, which potentially will increase our overall business diversification.
What makes the Cedar Valley a great place for business?
The Cedar Valley provides a centralized Midwest location for logistical applications and has a diverse business base that affords opportunities for companies such as warehousing. Also, as most of us recognize, the Cedar Valley is comprised of people who understand the value of hard work; many locations can not duplicate this vital asset.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give others?
The most important piece of advice I can offer a business owner is to attract and hire high quality workers; after the hiring process, treat these people with the respect and dignity they deserve. Your workers will make or break your business.
