INDEPENDENCE — Buchanan County Economic Development will sponsor the 2018 Buchanan County Leadership Development Program set to run from 6:45 to 9:15 p.m. Wednesdays from Feb. 21 to April 11. The event will culminate with an achievements award dinner.

The program will teach the skills needed to encourage and support community involvement. Topics include expectations of leadership, volunteers, servant leadership, conflict resolution, grant writing, using social media, managing meetings and project management.

Team Rehab joins Gundersen

DECORAH — Gundersen Health System has signed an agreement to purchase Team Rehab, a private physical therapy practice with locations in Decorah and Cresco.

When the purchase is finalized in late March, all Team Rehab employees will become Gundersen employees, and both locations will be maintained with existing staff. All patients can continue to receive care in the same locations.

For more than 20 years, Team Rehab has been a Decorah referral location for physical therapy services.

ISU Extension

to hold program

NASHUA – Area ISU Extension Services will offer a program for women on grain marketing Feb. 7 at the Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm in the Borlaug Learning Center located southwest of Nashua. The address is 3327 290th St.

Registration and refreshments will be at 8:45 a.m., and the program will start at 9 a.m. and end at noon.

Kelvin Leibold, ISU Extension and Outreach Farm Management specialist, will present. Topics will include understanding basis, calculating carry in the market, cost of storage, seasonal price trends, crop marketing tools, estimating cost of production and developing a crop marketing plan.

There is no fee for the program, but registration is requested by Feb. 5, so materials will be available.

WATERLOO — The Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber will host its annual Cedar Valley Legislative Reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 13 at Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel, 401 Locust St., Des Moines.

State legislators join with business, local government and community leaders from the Cedar Valley at the mid-session event to discuss accomplishments and issues of importance to the area.

Ham radio

classes set

INDEPENDENCE —Starting March 1, the Buchanan County Amateur Radio Club and Buchanan County Emergency Management will sponsor a technician license class for entry-level ham radio operators.

The class will run seven weeks beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Emergency Services Annex located at 2109, 205th St. There is no cost for the class; however, there will be a testing fee. Each student will be responsible for purchasing their own textbook. Class size is limited to 10 persons. To register, email Clair Franzen at cliffy@indytel.com.
